Golden Words

Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses gave a piece of advice to him  as to how to govern the massive number of Israelites (Exodus 18:21, 22). This advice did enormous good to Moses in fulfilling the call of God.  Likewise, in every situation of life, you too need such godly counsel or guidance to progress forward in the right direction.

Once, a certain ship that sailed on the deep seas faced an acute shortage of drinking water. They stood perplexed not knowing what to do next. The reason being, the ship was surrounded by a deep sea filled with salt water. Hence the captain of that ship brimming with fear sent an SOS to all the nearby ships requesting help. He received a reply from a particular ship as follows: “Lower your buckets where you are.”  Though the message made the captain of the ship wonder over the advice given, yet he ordered that the buckets be lowered into the sea at that place to collect water. When he tasted a little of that water in his tongue, he was amazed because it tasted good. The sailor of the other ship sent that golden word for he knew that good water was available only in that particular spot, as there entered a brook with good waters. Oh! The anxiety in the hearts of the people in that ship disappeared! Bitterness vanished! Faces blossomed!
The Bible says, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him” (Matthew 12:35).  Beloved, God has kept wise and godly people around you to keep you on track.  Depend on God to accept the right advice and wade off the wrong words. In your confused state, God will speak to you His wonderful words of guidance or encouragement, so that you would be out of your pits of darkness. Also, God will give you the right word at the right time to counsel others. Bible says, “The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary...” (Isaiah 50:4). Have a listening ear and an obedient heart to apply such words of wisdom and be blessed.  Such a heart of humility always stays blessed in all situations.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,

Give me a humble heart to listen to the good words spoken by others into my life.  Let me not contempt such words of good-intention. I submit my mouth under Your control.  Help me to speak timely words, encouraging words that would edify people and cause them move on in the right direction.  In Jesus’ name, I pray.  Amen.
