To Fear the Lord!

Dearly beloved,

The Almighty God, who is holy, desires that every one of us should be cleansed from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God and live a holy life every day. Therefore, dearly beloved, as He desires, we should be holy in our thought, word and deed and thus live a holy life.

A devout young man, who always sought the holiness of God, began his higher studies in a University. A group of notorious students planned to somehow entice him to join their group and make him yield to mischievous and wrong deeds which they were into. They spoke enticing words and invited him to places which the Lord dislikes. But he would avoid them with a smile on his face. So, a big question arose in the mind of those students. They pondered, “Is it possible for a young man to remain so firm in keeping away from sin?” One day, they all joined together and sat around him and asked him many questions. They asked him, “How do you safeguard yourself to live such a holy life?” Filled by the love of Christ, the devout young man patiently answered every one of them and as he continued to answer them, their hearts were convicted of their sins and they began to weep. The Lord descended upon them and beautified their lives with the joy of salvation. Let us also dedicate our lives to be divine and sanctified this day and let us be a witness for holiness to many people.
The Bible says "To fear the LORD is to hate evil” (Proverbs 8:13). If we fear the Lord and obey His word, He will strengthen us to refrain from sin. He will also enable us to execute deeds of goodness and receive blessings in our day to day living. To fear the Lord, is the most joyful thing because you are secure in His hands. I often used to share about Joseph of the Bible when I talk about "Fear of the Lord." Joseph fled from pharaoh's wife, not yielding to sin. It was the fear of God that kept him unblemished. God honoured him by protecting him from all danger and lifted him to great heights. So, my dearly beloved, let us also learn to fear the Lord by hating evil and receive blessings of exceeding abundance.

There may be many around you who might entice you with sinful activities but you ought to hold-on to the Lord until the end, just as that devout young student! When you do that, the Bible says in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 that "the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one." Today, let us advance to living a life of example, that others will see the glory of our Lord in us.

Prayer:
Almighty God! By Your grace, let the divine holiness You desire be evident in my life and let it also set an example for many others. In the holy name of our Lord Jesus I pray, O Father, Amen.
