The Testing of Your Faith Produces Patience!

Dearly Beloved,
We undergo mental agony when our faith is tested. But if we hold fast to the Lord during those times, the Lord gives us the patience and embraces us and removes all our pain in a wonderful way for “This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (I John 5:4).

Pope John was a servant of God who was living in Rome, Italy. He served the Lord as the head of the Catholic church. The Lord revealed to him many spiritual secrets and he would share it with the church leaders the next day, who in turn would reveal them to their church members. Once he could not sleep all through the night wondering how the people would accept the message revealed to him by the Lord. He was walking to and fro in his room. At that time, he heard a voice saying, “Little John! Go to sleep.” It was a great surprise to him. He wondered who was calling him by name. Soon he understood that it was the Lord who was calling him. He was assured, “My mother used to lovingly call me as Little John. Likewise, the Lord must have called me like that.” All his burdens vanished and with a new faith, he went to sleep like a little child. Likewise, whenever we face trials which test our faith, let us submit all our worries at God’s feet and wait patiently.
When the disciples of Jesus were going in a boat, there came down a storm of wind; the sea raged and the boat was filled with water and was about to sink. They were filled with terrible fear and horror and they were in jeopardy! But Jesus came walking on the sea (Matthew 14:24,25). On seeing that, the disciples were terrified.  But Jesus immediately said to them, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Peter tells Jesus “If it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water” and Jesus replied, “Come.” Immediately, Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:29-31).

Dearly beloved, we have to trust the Lord always. When we are tested of our faith, we need to surrender ourselves completely at the feet of our Lord. We need to proclaim the glory of God and confess with our mouth that Jesus is the Son of God. We need to praise Him for the miracle that He is yet to perform in our lives. This is a way that we can express our trust in Him. The word of God says: “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). So stay strong in faith. When you do so, God will watch you and He will honour your faith from above.
Prayer:
Loving Father!
Grant me the grace to abide in You whenever trials come to test my faith. Help me not to worry, but to wait patiently and then receive Your blessings.
In the precious name of our Lord Jesus I pray, O Father,
Amen.
