Humble before God

Sis. Stella Dhinakaran
24 Dec
In this festive season of Christmas, wait at the feet of Jesus and examine yourself as to whether you are adorned with humility of heart.  Look at what Mary, the mother of Jesus says, “For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48).  Before receiving the grace to bear baby Jesus, how did she humble herself?  On knowing that she would conceive the Son of God by the Holy Spirit before her marriage, without considering the consequences from her society, she yielded herself fully for God’s will by saying, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).  For this reason, God made her “blessed” among women! You too adorn yourself with such humility.

There was a man of God used mightily with the manifestation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  His wife in all ministry trips accompanied him. Wherever they both went, the man was hosted with lots of love and gifts.  They served him their feast with great enthusiasm.  But, the wife was always looked upon with contempt.  As a result, the wife was wounded in her heart heavily.  But, in her heart, she said, “My husband is used mightily by God which draws more attention to him.  I, on the other hand, have not done much for the Lord.  I am just assisting my husband.  This respect is more than enough for me.”  She humbled herself under the mighty hands of the Lord. Days rolled on.  God who looked at her humble heart, gave her a significant portion in the ministry.  God filled her with Gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Thereafter, she too was honoured in the sight of people.  Yes, as she humbled herself before men and God, she was lifted up and honoured by God!
Beloved, be humble in your heart.  The Bible says, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6). Wait at His loving feet until God lifts you and honours you.  For sure, your humble nature would draw God’s attention to make you a “blessed” person.
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus.  I praise You for You perform everything beautiful in its time.  I surrender myself to You. Give me the grace to exalt You by all means.  Let none of mine spearhead before Your glory.  Guard my mind that I would never have pride in heart.  I praise You for You will lift me at the right time.  Give me the grace to wait patiently with a humble heart.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
