Doing Good To Your Neighbor

Dear sons and daughters in Christ,
In the bible we read that every good work is pleasing in the sight of God ( Colossians 1:10). Jesus too went about doing good works when He walked this earth 2000 years ago. In the book of Isaiah 61:1-3, it says, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives,….to comfort all who mourn….”.

Today also God is ready to do good to all those who call on Him. You as children of God should tread the way that God has shown you. You have to devote your time, in doing goodness when you have everything at your disposal. Because the scripture says, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act” ( Proverbs 3:27). According to this divine instruction, you have to be watchful in doing good to others at all time. Good works mean  work done in such a way so as to please God, more than self or anyone else. Good works carry out the purposes of God. They reconcile people to one an¬other and to God. And that’s why the bible says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”. ( Heb 13:16)
Once, there was an officer working for a certain company. Though he was a Christian, he never stepped forward to do good to anybody who approached him. On being asked, why he never helped anybody, he would get away giving certain excuses. Pretending to be a righteous person. Few years later he retired from the company. And during this time, there was not a single person to come and enquire about his well being. In fact, all his subordinates looked at him in a sarcastic way. It was a pathetic situation for him.

Let this not happen to any one of you. You should remember to do good as much as you can, when it is in your power to do so. Good works in the ordinary sense are doing things that others recognize will meet people’s needs. In workplace terms, it could be to help your co-workers. No reliance, even on the meritorious sacrifice of Christ, can be acceptable in the sight of God if you do not have love and charity towards your neighbor. Praise, prayer, and thanksgiving to God, with works of charity and mercy to man, are the sacrifices which you must follow every day and thus proving that you belong to Christ. So, you should do, all that you can, to help  the needy, to those who approach you to seek your assistance. This is a service that is pleasing to God Almighty.
Loving God,
You sent your Son to save the world and give us life in abundance. Today, I seek your help to do good to others. Give me your grace to be a source of help to all those in need.
In Jesus’ most precious name I pray,
