Clothe Yourself With Kindness And Forgiveness

Dr. Paul Dhinakaran

Dearly Beloved,
It usually happens that, when we are calm and quiet and doing our daily business, something comes up and makes us irritated and lose our cool. But I want to tell you, you should always hold your patience and with a gentle attitude approach whatever is coming your way. That’s what the Bible teaches us, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you,” (Colossians 3:12-13)

Once, when I was driving my car fast, I saw a man riding his bicycle and crossing the road right in front of my car. It was a busy road and the vehicle was moving at high speed. So I got irritated at the man’s foolish action. I started scolding him in my mind saying, “ Fool! You’re riding in the middle of the road. Don’t you have any sense?” But then, I had to stop at the traffic signal. I moved my car close to the cyclist and I stopped right next to him. I rolled down my window pane and was about to shout at him. Before, I could say a word. The cyclist was so cheerful looking at me and said, “Oh, It is Bro. Paul Dhinakaran, Praise the Lord brother, I was longing to meet you in person. At last, God has answered my prayer!” This really took me aback. I thought to myself, that I should be kind and considerate at all times.
If I had shouted at him for his silly action, I would have lost my testimony in life, that very moment. My dear friends, it is therefore very important to have the attitude  of forgiveness and kindness at all times. You should be amicable all the time. You never know, whom you’ll be coming across the next moment. That person would be all praises for you, but if you happen to approach him with a negative attitude, you’ve lost the goodness of your nature.

Therefore, it is essential to be filled with the fruits of the Holy Spirit, who alone can help you to stay calm in all circumstances, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).  You are the child of God. God works through you to change the lives of other people. He has blessed you and wants you to be a blessing to others. Hence, let not your impatience or unforgiving attitude stop the flow of Gospel of Christ into the lives of others. Enter this New Year uncluttered and with the mind of Christ.
Loving Father!
Help me to live a cautious life, never to be impatient but to be kind and forgiving in nature. May I never err through my lips. Fill me with the fruits of the Holy Spirit, so that I can always be a testimony to your name. Let my words and action bring love and life to other people’s life.
In Jesus most precious name I pray.
