A Year Of Good Beginnings

Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
01 Jan
Beloved, my New Year greetings to you. I declare that this year would be a “Year of Good Beginnings” by the immense grace of God.  In Luke 10:42, Jesus talks about Mary who sat at His feet to listen Him. “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”  Good choices mark glorious beginnings! What is your choice today? Choose to abide with Jesus in this New Year like Mary.  You will see God’s goodness in your life.  Decide to make small steps in drawing closer to Him. Bible says, “Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be” (Job 8:6-7).  Read your Bible every day.  Choose a calm place and talk with Him regularly.  Choose to bless your enemies. Identify your negative traits and plead His grace to overcome them.  As the path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day (Proverbs 4:18), you too will wax greater every day.  Read on to know how a kite string became a bridge!  There is a saying: “A rose started off a bud, a bird started off an egg, and a forest started off a seed.”

A 15 year old American, Homan Walsh made the first step in constructing a bridge over the Niagara Falls Gorge. On January 30, 1848, Homan flew a kite which he named “Union” from one side of the gorge to the other. Someone on the opposite side caught the kite and tied a stronger string to the end of the kite string, and Homan pulled the new, thicker string back across the gorge. This idea began a process which was repeated with an even stronger string, then a cord, then a thin rope, then a thicker rope, and eventually a steel cable, which crossed the expanse and was strong enough to support workers, tools, and materials. Finally, a sturdy bridge, over which trains and trucks could easily pass, was completed. And it all began with a string.
The Bible says, “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?” (Zechariah 4:10).  Do not be discouraged with the small that you have.  Take it to the Lord.  He will cause them to multiply.  A small seed sown into the ground grows into a big tree that provides shade to many.  Drops of water make an ocean.  Beloved, plan for the little things that you can do for yourself and for others. Lean on God’s grace and wisdom.  He will cause you to make good choices.  A small prayer to God Almighty would bring great peace into your soul.  Be ready to reap a big harvest for everything you sow this year. Sit at His feet and unload yourself.  Listen keenly to what He speaks, for in it lies your prosperity! As you surrender yourself to the leading of the Holy Spirit in this New Year, it would be for sure a “Year of good beginnings!”
Loving Father,

I choose to abide in You in this New Year.  Help me not to depend on my talents or wisdom.  May Your grace and love suffuse my being and renew my mind.  Draw me closer to You so that I would be led by the Holy Spirit every moment. Guard me from making wrong choices. Help me to do the little good things that I can so that I would see a greater blessing.  Let me be filled with Your love and peace at all times.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
