You Shall Not Be Put To Shame

Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
20 Jan
Honor and shame are significant values in any society. In Biblical times, honor was a virtue associated primarily with men, defining their identity and self-worth. Honor had less to do with feelings and more to do with influence and power. People would pay attention when a man of honor spoke. This holds true even today. We desire to be respected and applauded from time to time. When we lead an upright life, then God grants us the honor before others. As it’s written “By humility and the fear of the Lord, Are riches and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4).

Once, there was a God’s servant named John Bunyan. The village folk did not like him preaching God’s word and they put him in prison. His heart was broken. But he abided in God continuously. With the Word of God as the foundation, he wrote the book named “Pilgrim’s Progress”. As soon as he came out of the prison, he published this book. It was published worldwide and the whole world started to read it and it became the best seller. Many people came to his village in search of him asking, “Who is John Bunyan?” Because of his popularity and the visits of a large number of people to this village, it soon became a town. Four politicians read that book and it touched their hearts. They called him and honoured him with ‘Best book’ award. His fame spread throughout the world. Then, his village folk realized their mistake and they also wanted to honour him. They erected a big statue of him in their village before the prison.

SCRIPTURE to LIFE

God raised him up in the same place where he was put to shame. Beloved, do not be ashamed. If anyone casts you out as an enemy, do not become anxious. They will become your friends soon. They will come and honour you. In the same place where you were put to shame, you will be honoured. Never stop spreading the fragrance of Christ. Never stop doing what is right. Your reward comes not from men, but from the Almighty God.
Prayer:
Loving heavenly Father, Your word asks us to rejoice when people hate us for Your name sake, and for the good that we do. I pray that You will open the eyes of people to know You as their Saviour. Let them be saved. Surround me with good friendly people. May I always stand as a testimony to Your name.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen
